Aragon amplifier

I have an older Aragon amplifier, the 4004, and was
considering replacing it. After looking around in my price range I have not been able to
find anything that I like better. Would you consider the Aragon a good amp? I guess I'm
looking for a second opinion before I move on to upgrading other parts of my system.

You might find that you have to spend a chunk of change
to significantly better the Aragon. The 4004 was highly lauded in its day. It possesses
lots of clean power and rock-solid build quality. The 4004 actually stands for 400W into 4
ohms, which is substantial to say the least. Aragon is now owned by the Klipsch
Corporation, where you can still find service if it's ever needed. So I'd agree with you
that you have a good amp and perhaps other areas of your system are more in need of
upgrading.

I love reading the GoodSound! reviews. I'm an
equipment junkie and just can't seem to get enough. They have also helped me to buy some
pretty good equipment over the past few years (Polk Audio, B&K, Pioneer). Are there
other reviews you'd recommend for me to read? Thanks for your help and advice.

Helpful Quad review

Your Quad 21L review was very helpful to me. It described a
speaker that I think I could live with. I don't want to spend a ton of money, but I do
like the Quad sound and the name has been around for a long time. For these reasons, I
feel comfortable buying this product. Keep up the great website.

Mono or stereo car amp

I was wondering what the difference is between mono and
stereo car amps. A lot of my friends say that mono is no good and I should go with a
bridgeable stereo amp. I was looking into the Audiobahn A1500HCT 2000W mono high-current
amp compared to the Rockford Fosgate P5002 1500W amp. Which of the two would you prefer?

I assume you're driving a subwoofer and therefore need a
single-channel amplifier. In that case, I'd pick a mono amplifier optimized for the
application. A mono (single-channel) subwoofer amplifier should be more stable into
low-impedance loads, which may be important if you're driving a multiple-woofer array. It
also may include a built-in crossover and/or equalizer purpose-designed for subwoofer
systems. A stereo amplifier may provide more power into higher-impedance loads when
bridged, but may lack features you want for the subwoofer system. The bridged stereo amp
may run into problems when driving multiple woofers as well, as it won't be as stable into
loads lower than, say, 2 ohms. Go with the mono amp.
